A dentist for people who have stayed away
Dr. Mina Zand sees adults who have gone years without a dentist. Your first visit is a conversation, a tour of the room and a look at the tools. No treatment, and no lecture.

Before you come
None of these needs explaining to us.
You may feel you owe someone an explanation. You don't. Dr. Zand starts from where your teeth are today.
Tell us what happened. We change how we work around it and agree on a signal before we begin.
Ask for headphones or a blanket. We say what is about to happen before it does.
A raised hand pauses everything. Dr. Zand stops and asks what you need.
The first visit
Four things happen, in this order. You can stop after any of them.
You sit down with Dr. Zand in the consult room, not the chair. She asks what you would like her to know and what you would rather not hear. You choose how much to say.
You walk through the treatment room together. Sit in the chair, tip it back, sit up again, as many times as you like.
She lays out what an exam and a cleaning would use, names each tool and puts the mirror in your hand if you want to hold it.
You leave with nothing booked unless you want it. If you come back, the next visit is an exam, and anything more comes with a written estimate first.
Staying calm
Some visits are easier with help. Here is what we offer and how it works.
The tooth and the gum around it are numbed first. You stay awake, and Dr. Zand checks that it has worked before she begins.
A medicine you swallow, as Dr. Zand prescribes it. You stay awake and can answer her, and many people feel calm and drowsy. It is decided at a visit before the day.
Dr. Zand, who holds the state permit for it, prescribes and watches over it herself. A trained assistant stays in the room.
Someone is with you the whole time. We check your breathing, your pulse and how alert you are, and we write down what you were given.
You need an adult to drive you home and stay with you for the day. Dr. Zand tells you when to stop eating and drinking when you book.
We can't promise you will feel nothing, or that sedation suits you. Dr. Zand reviews your health history and medicines first, explains the risks and may decide against it.

No. The first visit is a talk, a tour and a look at the tools. Nothing is done to your teeth.

We give you a written estimate before any treatment. How fees work explains insurance and paying yourself.
